By reading these articles I learned a lot about the Depression. I also saw how desperate people were in the Depression and how they would do whatever they had to to make money. Everyone, no matter how rich or poor, had to work hard and earn as much extra money they could. There would be people selling fish in the streets for five cents. You can read the article about Clyde "Kingfish" Smith here. The Depression was a hard time where people were all in dept. people who had jobs beofre turned into maids and workers on the farm. These were dark, depressing times and people would commit suicide. Money was very important and maids were tested with money to check if they could be trusted in the homeowners house. The artice about Mrs. Marie Haggerty being a maid can be read here.Many people were homeless and couldn't work because there weren't any jobs available. This is a picture of a homeless man who lost everything in The Great Depression here. Women had to work and children were worried about money also. Some kids had to work to support their families. Peiople all had to do things they didn't want to do but they all did it for money. The women in this mill have been working since they were 10 years old and even though they hate it, they still work because they need the money.
